ABOUT MOSES "Our mission is to help agriculture make the transition to a sustainable organic system of farming that is ecologically sound, economically viable, and socially just, through information, education, research, and integrating the broader community into this effort." The Midwest Organic & Sustainable Education Service (MOSES,) is a 501(c)3 education-outreach organization working to promote sustainable and organic agriculture. MOSES serves farmers striving to produce high-quality, healthful food using organic & sustainable techniques. These farmers produce more than just food: they support thriving ecosystems and vibrant rural communities. The MOSES Board
of Directors is drawn from organic farmers and
activists throughout the Upper Midwest. Many MOSES Staff are also organic farmers. MOSES is best known for organizing the largest organic farming conference in the country, the Organic Farming Conference. From its humble beginning with 90 attendees over nineteen years ago, the conference now attracts over 2300 people to this event each year. The Organic University, which precedes the conference on Thursday, consists of in-depth, full-day courses that provide detailed information critical to the successful production and marketing of organic crops and livestock. In 2008 we started the Organic Farmer Mentoring Program designed to pair experience organic farmers with transitioning farmers. Our toll-free Transitioning Farmer Hotline is available to farmers with questions about the organic certification process. To promote organic production of row crops, the Organic Watershed Project was initiated to help farmers in the upper Mississippi watershed learn about transitioning to organic production. The "Help Wanted:Organic Farmers" campaign provides information and resources that will assist farmers in the transition to organic farming. We have developed an information packet to help you explore the potential of organic production on your farm. The MOSES Book Store provides important reference materials to farmers, and helps support our efforts to provide education and information to farmers, students, educators, and extension agents. The Organic Broadcaster is a bimonthly newspaper of the Midwest Organic and Sustainable Education Services (MOSES) that highlights news, information and innovations about Organic Agriculture. A quality publication with the kind of in-depth information farmers need to understand the complexities of organic production. The Upper Midwest Organic Resource Directory is a resource for farmers, extension agents, students and others in the Midwest who seek information about certification agencies, state and government agencies, farmer co-ops, networks, suppliers, processors, buyers and much more. The directory is available through the MOSES office or online on the MOSES website. MOSES provides organic agriculture training to farmers and Agricultural Professionals in Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. For more information, go to our Agricultural Professionals page, or visit our Events Calendar. MOSES also awards the annual MOSES Organic Farmer of the Year Award, provides informational Fact Sheets, resource referral, and the Organic Tree Fruit Network. For more information
