Certification Agencies
As of October
21, 2002 the new National Organic Program went into affect in the
US. Under this new program, all certifying agencies must be accredited
by the USDA in order to perform certifications.
The USDA does not certify farms, they
accredit independent certification agencies.
Private certification
agencies and state agriculture programs, accredited by the USDA's
National Organic Program, provide independent, third-party assurance
that organic food is produced and processed according to U.S. organic
standards. Contact each agency for more information.
